About Us

Established in 1990, Phoenix Engine Services was the brain child of 5 people, all ex-employees of The Praill Motor Group, based in Hereford.

Following the closure of Praills, Dennis Rutter, William Earlstone, Terry Preece, Alan Richards and Bill Jones decided to put their wealth of experience together and form a new company. Unlike Praills that had a huge staff base and dealt with a great diversity of products, Phoenix would, it was decided, concentrate on the engine side of things and so ‘out of the flames’ the ‘Phoenix’ rose.

Having acquired a smallish premises on Foley Trading Estate, Steve Harris was taken on as Parts Manager, himself an ex Praill Group employee with experience in the ‘factor’, ‘car franchise’ and ‘industrial engine’ field. On the back of securing a premises and a parts manager, Phoenix were soon awarded the Perkins service and parts franchise and things really started to take off. The Cummins engine dealership followed on shortly afterwards and a new engine technician was taken on in the shape of Nigel Cook, yet another ex-Praills man.

With the workload mounting, entry into the F.E.R. (Federation of Engine Remanufactures), an ever growing customer base and with more equipment being added almost weekly, Phoenix were rapidly outgrowing their premises.

In 1992, Phoenix took the momentous step of expanding to a bigger premises at their current Beech Business Park site, Colin Davies was taken on to specialise in crankshaft, con-rod and specialised machining and the new site with two large units was split into purpose designed areas. Two more technicians were employed along with a van driver and admin assistant and along the way, a 3rd unit was purchased. Phoenix Engine Services was now able to carry out everything it needed to do in house. Several small business awards have been received over the years and its customer base continues to grow.

Phoenix now service some of the biggest industrial manufacturers in the UK along with transport companies and local garages as well as drawing in work from around the UK. Work is carried out on all types of engines from all types of applications and new equipment is being added constantly to keep up with modern demand. Phoenix also take Health and Safety and Environmental issues very seriously and remain updated thanks to the various local and national authorities.

Phoenix also maintain a close working relationship with their growing network of suppliers and are kept abreast of new products, working techniques and technical data.

All in all, Phoenix Engine Services are convinced they offer an all round service for any engine requirement backed up by full guarantee.
